Diet and rest are the most important factors to be a successful bodybuilder, as the growing takes place out of the gym not in the gym. Supplements are important as they help the body to cope with the intensive stress on the body. These also encourage growth. Training needs to be intense over a shorter period rather than a longer period as training for too long is catabolic. This breaks down muscle tissue. I always keep my training routine under one hour and do cardio at a different time of the day. Cardio is very important pre-contest as it burns unnecessary fatty tissue and calories. I still eat pretty clean off-season but obviously have the occasional treat! My carbohydrates are high, protein high and fats medium-low. I still try to eat at regular intervals, normally every two hours. I also use supplements to increase calorie and protein intake for maximum growth.
